Jynthor Shadewarden
Drow, Ranger, Chaotic Good
Description
Jynthor Shadewarden is lean and wiry, with stark white hair cut close against his head and sharp violet eyes that scan constantly for threats or opportunity. His skin is a deep obsidian, contrasting with the faint gleam of greenish runes tattooed along his forearms—marks of protection he earned in dark rites before imprisonment. He wears muted leathers and a tattered cloak that blends with shadow, carrying an intricately carved longbow and a collection of knives, all meticulously maintained despite his wanderer’s harsh road.
Backstory
Once a scout in a Drow outpost beneath the Underdark, Jynthor was betrayed by a rival faction loyal to the merciless ruling matron. Captured and imprisoned in a bleak cavern prison, he survived years by honing his senses and mind in silence. His escape came in a daring, desperate raid amidst the chaos of a surface world expedition—now he moves stealthily, learning who he can trust. His goal is to rally other Drow who chafe under tyranny and use their skills to fight back for freedom.
Personality
Jynthor speaks little but when he does, his words carry a sharp wit and clear purpose. He watches others intently, reading small tells and body language before deciding if they earn his trust. He has a habit of tapping his thumb rhythmically against the haft of his bow when thinking or nerves strike. Despite his guarded nature, he shows fierce loyalty to allies and a quiet determination to protect those who cannot defend themselves.
Flaws
Jynthor's years of imprisonment left him wary to a fault, sometimes pushing potential allies away through suspicion or silence. He can become reckless if those he cares about are threatened, charging headlong without a plan. The scars—both visible and hidden—of betrayal haunt his trust in others, making cooperation a constant struggle.
Motivations
Jynthor is driven by the vision of a free Drow people, not ruled by fear or cruelty but united in strength and choice. He seeks to find or forge a band of like-minded warriors to challenge the matron’s tyranny. Beyond vengeance, he hunts for small acts of rebellion and hope that can flare into something greater.
