Casper of Clan Anvilguard
Dwarf, Paladin, Lawful Neutral
Description
A bald, heavily bearded dwarf paladin of Clan Anvilguard. He wears battle-worn chainmail and carries a longsword, a shield bearing his family crest—a giant dwarven gate guarding the Great Forge of Gauntlgrym—and six throwing javelins. Around his neck hangs a necklace marked with the symbol of Tempus.
Backstory
Casper was born beneath the anvils of Clan Anvilguard, a family sworn to protect the great forge of Gauntlgrym. His people taught him that a gate is more than stone and iron: it is a promise that what lies behind it will endure. He took up the shield of his clan after witnessing raiders breach an outer foundry, and he swore before the forge-flames that no enemy would pass him again. Casper now carries the sign of Tempus into battle, defending dwarven halls with a longsword, six throwing javelins, and the unyielding discipline of a gate guard.
Personality
Casper checks every door hinge, shield strap, and weapon grip before resting. He speaks in short, measured sentences and calls allies “kin” once they have stood beside him in danger. In crowded halls, he positions himself where he can see both the entrance and the people under his protection. He keeps his beard braided with a single iron ring bearing Clan Anvilguard’s mark.
Flaws
Casper treats retreat as a failure, even when withdrawal would save lives. Insults against his clan can draw him into a fight before he learns who started it. He distrusts unlocked doors, untested promises, and anyone who leaves a weapon unattended.
Motivations
Casper seeks to restore his clan’s honor by ensuring that no forge, vault, or settlement under his protection falls to an enemy assault. He wants to return to Gauntlgrym with proof that Clan Anvilguard’s oath still has weight beyond its own gates. Every battle is also a prayer to Tempus: meet danger without flinching, and make the enemy pay for every step.
