Duric Hammerhand
Dwarf, Fighter, Lawful Neutral
Description
Duric stands just over 4 feet tall, thickset and muscular from years at the forge. His skin is tanned and etched with fine scars, his beard kept tightly braided with iron clasps shaped like tiny hammers. His hands, calloused and strong, grip a pair of heavy, balanced hammers crafted by his own hand—each hammered steel head perfectly weighted for crushing or parrying. His dark brown eyes burn with the steady heat of hot coals, and his soot-darkened leather apron remains a permanent part of his battle attire.
Backstory
Born in the mountain stronghold of Ironhall, Duric apprenticed early to his clan's master smith, learning the craft that would make him renowned. When a raid threatened his home, he responded not only with hammer and anvil but with his twin war hammers, defending his kin with relentless precision. The forging of his dual weapons became a rite of passage, and since then, he has traveled far, offering his skills and martial prowess wherever justice and strength are needed.
Personality
Duric speaks with the directness of a craftsman—few words, and those carefully chosen. He taps his hammer rhythmically when thinking or anxious, a habit developed from years of forging. Patient and methodical, he expects the same steadfastness in others and reveals a dry sense of humor in rare moments of ease. Loyalty runs deep; once he commits to a cause or companion, he is immovable, a rock like the mountain stone of his birth.
Flaws
Duric's steadfastness can harden into stubbornness; once he fixes his mind on a course, he resists change even when it might be prudent. His pride in his craftsmanship sometimes veers into obsessive perfectionism, making him slow to accept 'good enough' solutions. This can frustrate allies who prefer quicker, less exact remedies.
Motivations
Duric is driven by a deep sense of duty to protect his clan’s honor and the legacy of his craft. He seeks to create weapons and armor that can turn the tide of battle and to test his skills against worthy foes. Beyond personal glory, he is drawn to causes that preserve order and defend the defenseless, forging a path where strength is wielded responsibly.
