A young, handsome half-elf man with short, messy dark brown hair and distinct, pointed ears. He has bright green eyes and three prominent, vertical scars running across his right cheek. Underneath his chestplate, he wears dark quilted garments and metal gauntlets with brown leather strapping on his forearms. A thick white fur collar lines the top of his black cape, which drapes over his shoulders. He has multiple leather utility and sword belts strapped securely around his waist and across his chest, holding a sheathed sword at his side.
Backstory
Falken's father, Theren Duskryn, was a ranger of the Shael’Tharin, the clan of Wood Elves who guarded the Forest at the base of the Oth’Shael Mountains, known to the nearby human inhabitants of Matrorn as the Shadeweald. His mother, Rebekka Ulf'roar, lived with her family on the Bramblewood Farmstead in Eastern Matrorn just outside the forest. Her family took in Theren after he aided them against a group of bandit scavengers that had been threatening and raiding the ville. The two of them never hinted at Falken’s lineage within the the Shael’Tharin clan, hoping for Falken to forge his own path in this world, free of entitlements and expectation.
From a young age, Falken learned to wield both sword and bow from his father, who wanted him to be prepared for anything the world could throw at him. His mother often romanticized the world outside their rural community and would often share stories of myth, legend, and lore of the various other races that inhabited it. With his curious mind filled with stories of a larger world Falken's father saw fit to ensure the boy knew more than just the common tongue. He taught young Falken his native elvish tongue, as well as Dwarven, the language of smithies and prominent merchants of the nearby mountains.
At the age of 14 the farmstead where they resided was attacked by a large group of guardsmen flying the banner of Matrorn. The men demanded tribute, beyond what was expected by royal decree and well outside what the community could provide. The encounter turned violent when the Guardsmen decided to take other forms of “collateral”. Unable to ensure the boy's safety, Falken's father set him on horseback with minimal supplies and sent him off through the fields. This would be the last time Falken would see his family and home intact. As smoke billowed into the sky, Falken returned hours later to find the Farmstead in ruin, many people missing, the roads littered with corpses-some unidentifiable-and the body of his father slumped over, surrounded by several expired guardsmen. With his father dead, and his mother was nowhere to be found, there was nothing left for him, and Falken took to the road.
He spent the next six years scraping by, surviving on his own, as he started off doing odd jobs for others. When work was scarce, he fell back on survival skills taught by his father for food and shelter. As he grew older, he began finding opportunities to use his sword and bow skills as well to carry out more dangerous yet far more lucrative work. With time and experience, Falken had honed his skills with a blade to the point where he began to garner some attention from a small mercenary group that worked primarily in and around the capital city. Over the few years, Falken flourished with the group. The technique that had started as instruction from his father was stripped down by years of mercenary work until only what kept him alive remained. His father taught him how to wield a sword; these mercenaries taught him how to survive with one.
Personality
They are methodical, analytical, often viewed as over serious. To his friends, those rare few he allows to grow close, he has a sarcastic light-hearted humor, and a near permanent faint smile, though it fades as soon as they are engaged in any kind of work. He is caring and loyal, especially to his friends and those in desperate need of aid.
