The Circlet of Unmaking
Ring, Artifact, Requires Attunement
Description
This broad ring is forged from a metal that shifts between gold, iron, and glass as it catches the light. A black gemstone fills its setting, yet its surface reflects places that do not exist, and the band is warm on one side and deathly cold on the other.
Lore
The archmage Sered Vhal wore it when the city of Orun vanished from the world, leaving only a perfect circle of white ash and a ringing silence. When Vhal returned years later, he claimed the ring had shown him the seam where reality could be opened, but refused to say what had looked back through it.
Properties
The ring can erase matter, magic, and even living history from the world, leaving no wound except in the memories of those who witnessed the loss. It can also restore what was erased, though the returned thing may carry changes borrowed from another possible reality. Each use draws the surrounding world toward collapse, causing distances, names, and natural laws to briefly lose their certainty.
