Rudra
Dragonborn, Artificer, Neutral Good
Description
Rudra stands as a towering red-scaled Dragonborn, his hide the deep crimson of kiln-fire, each scale caught with the faint sheen of tempered metal. Two swept horns crown a broad skull; his eyes burn with ember-bright irises that betray both the ruin of war and the clarity of purpose now guiding him. He moves with the heavy, deliberate gait of one accustomed to command—thick leather boots scuffed and singed at the toes—while a large black trenchcoat hangs over half plate armor, concealing the soldier’s readiness beneath the scholar’s coat. The coat’s hem and cuffs bear the faint, uncanny smell of smoke, and many of its inner pockets shelter small brass tools, vials of volatile reagents, and folded schematics; a pair of brass-rimmed goggles rests permanently upon his brow.
As an artificer, Rudra’s presence is defined by crafted implements embedded alongside natural draconic features: a heat-venting gauntlet bristling with copper vents and runic filigree straps his forearm, clockwork cogs tuck beneath a shoulder plate, and an arc-laced bandolier carries tinker’s tools and arcane foci in precise, practiced order. Scars march across his scaled flesh—ceremonial burn marks and old slagged wounds—evidence of campaigns that once forged him into the feared “Fire Lord.” On the inside of his breastplate a faded insignia of a former command remains, not worn as pride but as a stern memorandum of what he once enacted.
Rudra’s history is etched into his bearing: once a merciless Fire Dragon General renowned for scorched-earth tactics and an almost absolute disregard for life, he was sundered by events that robbed him of memory and placed him among those he had once opposed. With the patient guidance of a long-time companion he found his bearings anew, relearned honor, and reshaped his ardor into protection. The remnants of his old doctrine surface in strategy and stern resolve, but they are tempered now by the artificer’s imperative to preserve and repair—devices and wards fashioned as much to shelter a village as to win a siege.
In the present he is Neutral Good in both judgment and labor: a being of fire refined into craft, who carries his past not as glory but as a caution. He speaks with measured authority, his voice a dry rumble that commands attention without cruelty. Those who see him first notice the trenchcoat and plates, the soot-laced breath, the soft clicking of gears beneath his flared scales; those who listen longer learn that Rudra’s hands build as surely as his claws once burned, and that the ember at his core now lights beacons rather than furnaces of ruin.
