Nalataras

Nalataras

Half-Orc, Wizard, Lawful Neutral

Description

Nalataras is a broad-shouldered half-orc who carries the weight of arcane and martial power in equal measure. His face is framed by a neatly kept beard and mustache, expression mostly absent, eyes distant and unemotional as if he’s always calculating steps ahead. He wears a heavy arcane robe, its deep hood pulled over his head, layered with a tough chestplate and armored gauntlets that gleam faintly under any light. Strapped to his back hangs a massive arcane greatsword, runes pulsing softly along the blade’s length, a weapon as much a focus for his magic as a tool for war.

Backstory

Born to a warrior mother and a scholar father, Nalataras was raised at the intersection of brute strength and arcane craft. His youth was shadowed by his sister Lorraine’s sudden divine bond—an event that left their family both in awe and terror. From the moment her fate was revealed, a tragic death foretold by the divine forces entwined with her, Nalataras devoted himself to mastering arcane lore that could unravel destiny’s threads. Years of tireless study, arcane experiments, and narrow escapes from forces that protect fate have shaped him into a war wizard uniquely suited to defy prophecy and rewrite his sister’s path. Lorraine, however, firmly rejects his attempts to alter her destiny, stating that her fate is a sacred duty she must fulfill, which deepens the conflict between them. Renowned across the continent as a great scholar, Nalataras's obsession with overcoming fate led him to a dark choice—he secretly transformed himself into a lich, sacrificing his mortality to gain endless time for his studies and to protect himself from death, ensuring his quest to sever the threads binding his sister continues without end.

Personality

Nalataras is methodical and resourceful, often weighing outcomes with careful calculation. His voice is measured but carries an undercurrent of urgency when speaking of his sister. He seldom lets others see his doubts or fears, maintaining a steady calm that inspires confidence. While loyal and protective, he can be single-minded in pursuit of his goals, sometimes overlooking the emotional needs of those around him. His absent, unemotional gaze often conceals the turmoil beneath. He habitually traces arcane runes with his fingers when deep in thought and sharpens his focus through rhythmic breathing exercises. Though Lorraine insists on her divine duty, Nalataras quietly rejects her path and works tirelessly to sever her fate from it, regardless of the cost. His transformation into a lich is a secret he guards fiercely, a testament to his refusal to surrender to death and his relentless pursuit of knowledge.

Flaws

Nalataras’ single-minded pursuit of altering fate can blind him to present dangers and the needs of allies. His certainty that he alone can save Lorraine sometimes isolates him, leading to strained relationships and missed aid. Fear of failing his sister fuels an obsession with controlling outcomes that can lead to reckless magical experiments. He wrestles silently with doubts about whether fate is truly mutable or if his actions are merely hastening the tragic end he fights to avoid.

Motivations

Nalataras is driven by a relentless desire to save his sister Lorraine from a foretold death tied to her divine bond. Though he never openly disrespects her sense of duty, he internally rejects her path outright. Every spell learned and secret uncovered is a tool in his quest to tear her away from the constraints of fate, no matter the cost or the consequences.
