Solareth, the Dial of Last Light
Other, Legendary, Requires Attunement
Description
Solareth is a palm-sized astrolabe of chased silver and darkened brass, its rim engraved with constellations that catch the light like fine dust. A clear crystal dome crowns the face, and within it a thin beam of pale radiance slowly sweeps from mark to mark as though searching. When held steady, the device warms the skin at the thumb and seems to settle into the hand like a well-balanced compass.
Lore
It was set upon the chapel lectern of Sister-Ionel Archem—an astronomer-priest who swore to chart the moments just before a siege ended. On the night the city gates finally held, the astrolabe’s sweep aligned with a hidden star-map and the chapel candles burned without smoke, guiding refugees through the dark corridors. After Archem vanished, Solareth was sealed inside a glass case to prevent anyone else from turning its light toward the same hour.
Properties
When you attune to Solareth, it points to the direction from which hope is hardest to find, bathing nearby surfaces with a soft, decision-bright glow. The sweeping radiance briefly outlines invisible tracks of intent—footfalls of fear, sudden turns of betrayal—enough to steer you away from danger or toward a truth. Once per day, it marks a single span of time for you with a faint afterimage, letting you return to that moment’s understanding when you make your next choice.
