Cinderrime, the Ember-Promise Blade
Weapon, Very Rare, Requires Attunement
Description
Cinderrime is a one-handed longsword with a blade of dark iron veined like cooled ash, its edge brightening only where it has been warmed. A narrow band of pale silver wraps the grip and pommel, and small cut facets of smoky quartz sit inlaid along the fuller, catching light even in dim rooms. When drawn, the sword feels subtly warm through the leather wrap, as if it has been waiting in a forge rather than a scabbard.
Lore
The blade was forged for Captain Odran Vell, a border-warden who stood between a besieged caravan route and a firewraith’s hungry tide. During the last defense, Odran struck the wraith down at the moment its breath froze into cinders, and the sword drank that heat without burning him. Afterward, Odran vanished in the ash-storm that followed, leaving only Cinderrime behind on the wagon that carried the survivors.
Properties
When you swing the sword or complete a deliberate strike, ember-bright sparks lift from the edge and drift into a thin, misty veil that clings close for a heartbeat. The blade’s warmth settles wherever your hand grips, making it feel steady and true in your intent. It also leaves a faint, readable sign in the air when light is low—like a short-lived ribbon of pale fire—revealing the direction of your last motion to those who know what to look for.
