Astra-Edge, the Oathblade
Weapon, Very Rare, Requires Attunement
Description
Astra-Edge is a one-handed longsword with a narrow, tapering profile and shallow fuller lines that catch the light like running water. Its guard is cast as interlocking star-rings, and a teardrop sapphire sits in the center, set in chased gold that warms under the palm. When drawn, a faint mist clings to the blade’s length, and the edge seems to drink illumination before releasing it as a thin, prismatic glow.
Lore
The blade was forged for Captain Lyrenne Vos during the siege of Halveth’s Watch, when the city’s wards failed and the sky turned the color of ash. She carried the sword into the breach at the exact hour the enemy banners stopped moving, and her oath—spoken over the sapphire—became audible only to those who were willing to bleed truth. After the night ended, Halveth’s ward-stones began to glitter for weeks, as if the city had remembered how to protect itself.
Properties
The sapphire flares when the wielder commits to a spoken vow, turning nearby air into a quiet halo that steadies aim and posture. The blade’s surface briefly writes falling constellations of light along the edge as it moves, leaving a momentary path for allies to follow. If the wielder strikes to defend an innocent, a surge of cool brightness follows the blow, scattering shadow and the lingering aftertaste of fear.
