Backstory. Flock was born in a remote mountain village buried deep in the frozen north, where snow covered the land for most of the year and survival depended on discipline, cooperation, and resilience. Life was harsh but stable, and everyone knew their role in keeping the village alive.
Everything changed when he met his mentor — an aging ranger and wanderer named Kael Thornwood.
Kael was a traveler who had once explored distant kingdoms before eventually arriving in the north. He stayed longer than most outsiders, repairing paths, trading knowledge, and teaching survival techniques in exchange for shelter.
Unlike others, Kael didn't treat Flock like a child or a villager. He treated him like someone who could understand the world.
He taught Flock:
how to read weather patterns beyond instinct
how to track creatures across different terrains
how to survive outside the mountains
and most importantly: how to observe before judging
But more than skills, Kael gave him stories — of deserts, floating cities, deep forests, and cultures that saw the world in completely different ways.
Flock's Shifter nature began to manifest more strongly during this time. Kael recognized it not as something dangerous, but as something natural — a reflection of instinct and adaptability.
One winter, Kael left the village. Before he departed, he told Flock:
"You were not meant to stay here forever. You are meant to understand what lies beyond the snow."
That moment stayed with him.
Now: Flock travels the world not just out of curiosity, but as a continuation of his mentor's path — collecting knowledge, observing cultures, and slowly becoming the kind of ranger Kael once was. He still carries Kael's teachings with him, and somewhere in the back of his mind, he wonders where his mentor went, and whether their paths will cross again.
