Nackle Vort

Murbok's Fixer, Goblin, Rogue, Neutral Good

Description

Nackle Vort is a goblin fixer who works beside Murbok Fizzwidget, translating half-formed ideas into workable plans and cleaning up the trouble they cause. He carries a pouch of mismatched keys, wire, wax, chalk, and stolen-looking tools that he insists are only borrowed. His ears twitch toward loose hinges, badly fitted locks, and anyone speaking too confidently. Nackle is small even for a goblin, quick-fingered, sharp-eyed, and usually smeared with grease from whatever device he repaired last.

Backstory

Nackle grew up repairing locks, buckles, and cooking tins for goblins who could not afford replacements. His talent for finding useful things in rubbish brought him to Murbok Fizzwidget, the older goblin whose wild ideas are matched by a talent for finding honest work in places that would rather dismiss the crew as thieves. Murbok leads their troop, keeps them moving, and talks them past trouble with plans that sound mad until they work. Nackle became his closest fixer after retrieving him from a collapsing workshop with a bent spoon, a length of cord, and instructions nobody else understood. Since then, Nackle has found buyers for their tinkered goods, acquired parts without drawing attention, and made sure every meal, coin, tool, and safe bed is shared with the goblin who needs it most. The big folk often hear only babble when the troop speaks, but Nackle knows exactly what Murbok means—and which of the crew needs help before they ask. He secretly keeps a written ledger of every debt the troop owes and every person they have helped, disguising the entries as nonsense diagrams.

Personality

Nackle speaks in clipped bursts, replacing explanations with labels: “bad hinge,” “soft guard,” “three boots,” or “Murbok problem.” He taps two fingers against his thumb while thinking and counts favors on the knuckles of his left hand. Around strangers, he acts distracted and foolish until they stop watching him; around the troop, his posture straightens and his shorthand becomes precise. He watches who has eaten, who is limping, and who has gone quiet. If supplies run short, he divides them before taking his own share. Nackle trusts Murbok’s plans even when they sound impossible, but he keeps one hand on the escape route while Murbok explains them.

Adventure Hooks

A town magistrate hires Nackle to recover a stolen device, unaware that Murbok built it and the crew took it to keep it out of dangerous hands. A merchant accuses the goblins of fraud after one of their repaired tools works better than the original, drawing unwanted attention from a guild. Nackle’s debt ledger is stolen, and its diagrams reveal that the crew has been quietly supplying food and medicine to several struggling families. Murbok disappears after following one of Nackle’s coded warnings: “too many boots under floor.”
