The Pendant of Divergent Paths

Wondrous Item, Artifact, Requires Attunement

Description

The Pendant of Divergent Paths (The Chain Necklace) Wondrous Item, Artifact (Requires Attunement by a Cleric or Paladin) This platinum chain holds a heavy pendant shaped like a lightning bolt split cleanly down the middle into two jagged paths. It represents the choice between the gentle breeze and the obliterating storm.

Lore

When Torvax The Unbound had a child with a mortal, he gave the child's mother this necklace and from his own form, he drew forth a pendant—metallic, thrumming with captured lightning, emblazoned with his symbol: the jagged mark of a lightning bolt split in two directions. He pressed it into her palm.

"Let them be seen as blessed by Torvax himself," he told her, his voice neither kind nor cruel, simply final. "Do not try to persuade them otherwise. Let the mortals believe what they will. It will protect them in ways you cannot."

She asked if she should hide the pendant, hide the symbol, hide the truth. Torvax laughed—a sound like wind screaming through canyons. "No. Let it be worn. Let it be known." The lie that was closer to the truth would protect her child better than any secret ever could. They were blessed, chosen, marked by divine favor. That story would carry them further than the raw and messy fact of what they actually were.

The child then grew and made it family tradition for the pendant to be worn by the eldest of every next generation in their family and shown to every child of their bloodline when they turned 14 as a reminder of the true nature of their power and their divine lineage.

It is currently worn by Jason Stormvale, the next in line to rule House Stormvale...

Properties

Split Focus: You can maintain concentration on two different spells simultaneously, provided both spells deal lightning/thunder damage or manipulate the weather (e.g., Call Lightning and Wind Wall). At the end of each of your turns, you must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or lose concentration on both spells.
Forked Judgment: When you cast a spell that targets only one creature and deals lightning or thunder damage, you can force the spell to split. Choose a second target within 30 feet of the first. Both targets take half of the spell's total damage on a failure, or no damage on a success.
Volatile Rebuke: When a creature hits you with a melee attack, roll a d6. On a 1–3, a blast of wind pushes them 10 feet away. On a 4–6, a spark of lightning shocks them for 2d10 lightning damage.
