The Hellhound 's Dread Pauldron

The Hellhound’s Dread-Pauldron Wondrous Item (Shoulder Guard), Rare (Requires Attunement to Light, Medium, or Heavy Armor) Description: Carved from the bone skull of a lesser pit-fiend, etched with glowing emerald runes.

This pauldron was supposedly carved from the skull of a lesser pit-fiend and used to be standard issue for the elite hunters within the army of the Black Horn years ago. They would collect the skulls of their fallen lesser allies and put them to use by imbuing them with magic to frighten and scare their opponents...

NPC Prowess Use:

• Gaze of the Damned: Reaction, the eye sockets of the skull flare with green light, forcing an attacker to make a DC 14 Wisdom save or attack the character wearing the pauldron with disadvantage.

Player Looted Perks:
- Gaze of the Interrupter: As a reaction when targeted by an attack or a saving throw, force a DC 14 Wisdom save on the source. On failure, they have disadvantage on the attack, or you gain advantage on the saving throw. (Uses = Proficiency Bonus per long rest).
- Hellfire Fortitude: If a caster attunes to it, they can use their reaction when taking damage to gain advantage on that specific Concentration check.
- The Echo of Hell (Curse/Quirk): Allows the wearer to speak/understand Infernal. However, in the presence of the Lord Cavalyx or his generals, the emerald eyes flare aggressively and the wearer feels a powerful, psychic urge to kneel.
