Ash-Feather Crossbow

Ash-Feather Crossbow

Weapon, Very Rare, Requires Attunement

Description

The Ash-Feather Crossbow
Weapon (Heavy Crossbow), Rare (Requires Attunement)
Description: Fire-hardened darkwood wrapped in brimstone-stained brass, using a taut wire of woven infernal copper that hums with low heat.

Lore

A more uncommon weapon among the elite infernal hunters of the nine hells, they are usually made from the fire hardened wood native to one of the layers of the nine, but each crossbow can be customized and decorated to the hunters preference. This particular one has been imbued with special infernal magic to trap and ensnare targets to make them easier to capture.

Properties

NPC Prowess Use:

  • Pinning Shot: After the bolt successfully hits a creature or object. The bolts burst into spectral chains, dropping a target's speed to 0.

  • Chain/grapple bolt option: If a chain or rope is fixed to the crossbow bolt, and tethered to the crossbow, the crossbow is strong enough to act as an anchor for the tethered bolt, and can be used to climb or pull a target up to the length of the affixed rope or chain.

Player Perks:
- Primal Hellfire Conversion: Lacks the "loading" property if the user has a spellcasting feature. The user can convert any ordinary bolt into pure fire or ash, altering the damage type to Fire.
- Spreading Embers: Once per short rest, hitting a creature with a fire-converted shot causes them to burst. Up to two nearby creatures within 10 feet must make a DC 14 Dex save or take 2d6 fire damage
