Vestele Wolfaen
High Elf, Rogue, Chaotic Neutral
Her knife gives off a faint magical hum that only she seems able to hear, like a note caught beneath the steel. Vestele cannot identify its source or understand its meaning, but the sound grows louder whenever she thinks of her missing sister.
Description
Vestele Wolfaen has long black hair threaded with dark cherry-red strands, pale freckles, tattoos, and piercings. Her piercing blue eyes sit beneath dark eye makeup, with dark red lipstick marking the only color on her guarded face. She wears close-fitting black rogue leathers, chunky black boots, and a hooded cape. Her favored weapon is a twin knife, matched to the blade carried by her missing younger sister; the pair has passed through their family for generations. The knife is worn and practical, its history carried in the grip and the scars along its edge.
Backstory
Vestele grew up poor in a small village where hunger shaped every season. Her parents died from starvation, leaving Vestele and her younger sister, Vaelria Wolfaen, to survive together. Years ago, the sisters went hunting for food and became separated. Vestele has never learned what happened afterward. She does not know where Vaelria went, whether she survived, or who might have seen her last. Vestele carries one of a pair of twin knives passed down through her family. Vaelria carried the matching blade when they vanished from each other’s sight. Vestele keeps hers close, using it as a weapon and as the clearest link to the family she has left. She now takes whatever rogue work pays enough to keep moving and gathering leads. Her goal is simple: find Vaelria, earn enough money to buy a cottage, and live there with her if she is still alive. Vestele has no clear trail to follow, only the memory of their last hunt and a question she refuses to abandon.
Personality
Vestele speaks only when she has something worth saying and watches a room before choosing where to stand. She assumes kindness may conceal a price, keeps her back to a wall, and counts exits without appearing to look. Trust must be earned through repeated proof, never a single promise.
She reads whenever she can, hiding books beneath her cloak and closing one at the first approaching footstep. She guards the habit as fiercely as any secret. Beneath her silence, she has always wanted to fall in love, but she buries that wish under caution and lets no one see how much she longs for a place to belong. Someone patient enough to earn her trust may eventually find her willing to speak plainly.
Flaws
Vestele suspects gifts, favors, and sudden friendliness. She may reject useful help rather than risk owing someone. When frightened or hurt, she withdraws instead of explaining herself, then treats questions as attempts to pry open a wound.
Her temper is vicious when provoked. Anger strips away her usual silence and caution, sending her into reckless, unpredictable violence that can look almost unhinged to anyone watching. She may laugh at the wrong moment, ignore wounds, pursue an opponent beyond reason, or turn a minor insult into a personal war. The fury burns hot and leaves her ashamed afterward, but she rarely apologizes without being forced to face the damage.
She cries in her sleep but wakes before dawn and denies anything is wrong. She would rather endure pain alone than let an ally witness weakness. Her fear of losing another person can make her cling to a lead long after reason says to let it go, especially when it might point toward her sister.
Motivations
Vestele is driven to find her missing younger sister, though years have passed without a confirmed trail or proof that Vaelria survived. Every paid job is a chance to gather coin, information, or a name that might lead closer to the place where the sisters were last together. Her long-term hope is to earn enough for a small cottage where she and Vaelria can live safely, should they find each other again. She also wants connection, though she would deny it if asked: a love that does not demand performance, expose her secrets, or disappear when she becomes difficult to reach.
