Elowynn

Elowynn

Elf, Bard, Neutral

Description

Elowynn is a High-Elf woman in her centuries, her beauty marked by the traces of a long life lived fully. Her long dark brown hair falls in medium waves and curls, wild and unkempt with an uneven fringe brushing her forehead and loose strands hinting at nights spent by a campfire or traveling. A subtle nose ring and asymmetrical silver earrings add to her understated style. Her warm, calm gaze carries intelligence and quiet amusement, reflecting a wealth of stories heard and remembered.

She dresses in worn, practical bard attire: a slightly loose black shirt with wide open collar and delicate embroidery, sleeves rolled up. Over it, a short brown-black leather coat, patched and stitched from years of use, once belonging to another but now her own. Dark fitted trousers allow ease of movement, accompanied by a wide leather belt holding small pouches, charms, a notebook, and writing feathers. Tall leather boots, weathered and decorated with small metal pieces, speak of many miles traveled.

Elowynn holds a Duduk, a 40 cm long Armenian woodwind instrument attached to her belt. Its polished black wooden body bears faded elven engravings, and an aged metal mouthpiece. The instrument's sound is deep and melancholic, like a distant human voice carried through fog, perfect for the eerie Curse of Strahd world.

Backstory

Elowynn was born into the High-Elf nobility but quickly found the courtly life stifling. After a world-shaking event shattered her homeland, she took to the road, gathering stories and songs from every corner of the land. The death of her family and the fall of kingdoms pushed her toward the College of Whispers, where subtle magic and secrets fuel her art.

Her instrument, the Duduk, was gifted to her during a long, cold winter in a remote village where she learned that music can carry memories longer than words. Years of travel hardened her but also deepened her empathy, as she witnessed the fading of old powers and the rise of new threats, including the dark mists enveloping Barovia.

Now, wandering through this haunted land, she records tales and collects whispers, becoming both archivist and survivor. Her presence in Barovia is a quiet rebellion against the oblivion threatening all histories.

Personality

Elowynn listens more than she speaks. Her calm, modulated voice draws others in; she chooses words carefully, often letting silence speak as much as sound. She has an almost tactile memory for stories and people, recalling details that others forget.

Despite carrying the weight of centuries, she maintains a subtle humor, often dry and sharply observant. She keeps her emotions closely guarded but shows kindness in unexpected ways—a shared joke over a campfire, a small gift tucked into a pouch.

She moves with quiet confidence, never needing to dominate a room but commanding attention simply by being present. She values authenticity above all else, despising pretense and artifice.

Flaws

Elowynn's long life has made her wary of attachment; she often keeps others at a distance emotionally. She sometimes comes across as cold or aloof, a defense learned from loss and betrayal.

Her thirst for stories and secrets can lead her into danger, especially when curiosity blinds her to obvious risks. She is reluctant to trust magic beyond her own abilities, skeptical of promises and prophecies.

Though skilled at manipulation when needed, she feels guilt over using her powers to deceive, causing occasional hesitation at critical moments.

Motivations

Elowynn is driven by a deep need to preserve stories and memories in a world slipping into darkness and forgetfulness. She believes that through tales and song, history can resist oblivion.

She seeks truth beneath the surface—whether in whispers of lost knowledge, hidden motives, or fading magic. Her mission in Barovia is both personal and profound: to record the tragedies and triumphs of those trapped in eternal night, hoping to find a spark that can reignite hope.

She also longs for genuine connection, though she fears it may be beyond her reach after centuries of loss. Each new story is a chance to reclaim a piece of humanity.
