Filip Siltwater
Kalashtar, Warlock, Chaotic Neutral
Description
Filip Siltwater is a seventeen-year-old Kalashtar boy who stands 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 211 pounds. Tall and narrow-framed, he has long limbs and a lean build, but he does not slouch; his back is straight, his chin level, and his stillness carries the disciplined weight of his people. His eyes glow a soft green. His translucent white skin shows slow ripples of mustard yellow drifting beneath its surface like silt moving through clear water. His long hair falls in a natural, gentle wave, colored pastel olive green. He bears himself with stoic resolve rather than youthful ease. His clothing often carries the clean, sharp scent of mint from his family’s trade, along with the dark stains of mineral-rich mud.
Backstory
Filip was raised in the Siltwater family, whose name is famous across the surrounding waterways. His relatives gather mineral-rich mud from the places where creeks and rivers spread into ponds and lakes, then mix it with mint plants to make a compost prized for its fertility and clean, powerful fragrance. A Siltwater wagon can be recognized long before it appears, and farmers know the family’s product from a great distance.
His people taught him spiritual discipline and stoic resolve. He learned to endure discomfort without complaint, listen before speaking, and treat a person’s conduct as more important than their promises. Even so, he left home recently for reasons that would be familiar to many teenagers: the need to escape constant instruction, inherited expectations, and the authority of people who believed they knew what was best for him.
Filip considers his departure justified. He has carried a growing grudge against parents, elders, officials, and anyone else who uses rank to demand obedience. Soon after leaving, he encountered a pair of bats that appeared wherever he traveled alone. They enticed him along forgotten paths and toward signs of an unseen patron, offering visions of blessing and power. Coming from a deeply spiritual culture, Filip was naturally drawn to the promise of a guide who could give his wandering purpose. He accepted the bond before learning the demon’s name or seeing its face.
Personality
Filip stands perfectly straight when challenged and answers authority figures in an even, respectful tone that leaves no doubt he is refusing them. He rarely raises his voice; a quiet “No” is his preferred form of defiance. He respects people who endure hardship without boasting and listens closely to priests, hermits, and other spiritual figures who practice what they teach. He has little patience for leaders who demand reverence while avoiding sacrifice themselves.
He still smells faintly of mint and river mud, and he treats that scent as a point of pride rather than something to hide. When the bats appear, he watches them without surprise and follows only after deciding that their direction agrees with his own judgment. He speaks of his unseen patron as a spiritual guide, never admitting how badly he wants its approval.
Flaws
Filip turns ordinary disagreements with authority into moral battles. Once he decides that someone is abusing rank, he remembers the offense long after everyone else has moved on. He mistakes stubbornness for conviction and treats compromise as surrender when the other person holds power over him. His family’s fame has also left him sensitive to insults about the Siltwater name, the family trade, or the work he abandoned.
He is quick to trust stoic and spiritual people, sometimes granting them the respect he refuses to anyone else. The bats exploit that weakness by appearing after moments of anger, offering their patron’s attention as though it were proof that Filip alone understands the truth.
Motivations
Filip wants to prove that leaving home was a justified act of self-determination rather than youthful rebellion. He seeks the patron’s blessings because they offer spiritual direction without the familiar voices of family and elders telling him what his life must be. He wants to discover the demon’s name, learn why it chose him, and earn a blessing powerful enough that no authority figure can dismiss him as an ignorant child.
Despite his resentment, Filip still seeks out people who live with discipline, endurance, and spiritual purpose. He hopes to find a community that respects resolve without demanding submission, even as his grudge against authority keeps pushing such people away.
