Dori
Half-Elf, Wizard, Neutral Good
Description
A young half-elf wizard with a bright, open face and quick, curious eyes. Her clothes are practical but cheerfully mismatched, marked by ink stains, singed cuffs, colored chalk, and pockets crowded with spell components. She carries a wand modified with small brass levers and crystal lenses, the latest result of an experiment she has not yet tested. Her smile arrives before her greeting, and her hands are almost always busy adjusting a device, sketching a glyph, or demonstrating a harmless spark of magic.
Backstory
Dori showed an unusual talent for magic before she had the patience to leave well enough alone. She replaced household charms with improved versions, tested levitation spells on kitchenware, and once filled an entire cottage with blue bubbles after misreading a sigil. Instead of suppressing her curiosity, her tutor taught her to record each trial: components, casting time, result, and what exploded. Dori soon became known for solving difficult arcane problems through odd but effective experiments. Now, still young, she attends every public demonstration and seeks out hedge mages, academy researchers, and traveling illusionists, hoping to learn what established wizards are too cautious to attempt.
Personality
Dori greets strangers as if they are friends she has not seen since yesterday. She collects gossip with the same delight she brings to a magic show, then repeats it with names, dates, and an apologetic reminder that it is not technically her secret. When excited, she talks with both hands and demonstrates her point with tiny bursts of harmless magic. She treats failed experiments as useful evidence, labels every result, and asks questions until even a dangerous spell begins to sound like a puzzle.
Flaws
Dori mistakes confidence for safety when a spell produces an unexpected result. She promises to keep secrets, then leaks them through an enthusiastic hint, a raised eyebrow, or an accidental demonstration. Her notebooks are full of brilliant theories but poorly sorted pages, and she sometimes starts a new experiment before finishing the one that caused the first problem.
Motivations
Dori wants to create a new school of experimental magic that makes discovery safer, stranger, and open to anyone willing to learn. She hunts for untested spells, forgotten formulae, and performers whose tricks conceal real arcane technique. Her greatest goal is to produce one spell so useful and surprising that even the oldest masters must admit her methods work.
