Barakas Chant

A tiefling fighter and folk hero whose hard-won reputation hides a ruthless nature.

Barakas Chant was raised among tenant farmers who paid a cruel lord in grain, blood, and silence. When the lord’s collectors came for the village’s winter stores, Barakas organized the farmers, ambushed the escort, and returned the grain to its owners. The villagers named him their champion, and songs about the deed carried his name to nearby towns. The truth was less noble: Barakas kept the collector’s signet ring and used it to extort every minor official who recognized it. He became a folk hero because the stories stopped before the bodies were counted.
