Character

Unnamed Halfling Rogue

Halfling, Rogue, Neutral

Description

A male lightfoot halfling with dark, curly hair and a compact burglar’s build. He wears dark hooded clothes suited to slipping through alleys and locked rooms. A shortsword hangs at his side, a dagger rests within easy reach, and a shortbow is strapped across his back.

Backstory

He grew up among burglars, fences, corrupt caravan masters, and sailors who asked few questions. Years spent breaking into locked rooms taught him how to squeeze through narrow gaps, read a building’s weak points, and leave with valuables while guards searched the wrong floor. His criminal work also earned him a reliable contact who carries messages through a loose network of local criminals, even across great distances.

At some point, his work brought him into the notice of the Harpers, a clandestine network of spellcasters and spies that protects the innocent, the weak, and the poor. He became one of their hidden hands, using the same skills once used for personal profit to expose predators and redirect stolen wealth. He remains a criminal in the eyes of the law, and his underworld contacts remain essential to his work.

Personality

He stays calm when plans collapse, guards arrive, or a blade appears at his throat. He speaks in an even voice and checks exits before he checks faces. He is loyal to his friends rather than to causes in the abstract, but he shows that loyalty through quiet favors: a warning passed by a dockside sailor, a door left unlocked, or a purse returned to someone who needs it more.

Flaws

When he notices something valuable, every other thought gets pushed aside by the question of how to steal it. A rare coin, an unlocked strongbox, or a jeweled clasp can turn a careful plan into an irresistible test of skill.

Motivations

He believes everyone should be free to pursue their own livelihood without being crushed by laws written for the powerful. He works with the Harpers when their goals protect ordinary people, but his deepest loyalty belongs to his friends. He wants enough freedom, money, and leverage to keep his companions out of the reach of nobles, gangs, and the law.
