Ulfrir
Mercenary hunter and dual-blade fighter, traveling with whoever needs a fast tracker who fights like prey turning into teeth., Shifter, Fighter, Chaotic Neutral
Description
Wolflike shifter fighter trained for close-quarters hunting. In his natural look he has dark hair, amber eyes that catch torchlight, and a grin full of sharp teeth. When he shifts, his shoulders broaden and his frame tightens like a drawn bow—ears sharpening, scent tracking, and claws replacing the last loose edges of bare hands. Dual-wielding by habit: one weapon forward like a paw, the other kept low and ready to hook, slash, or snatch at a foe’s footing.
Backstory
Born under a brutal sky where wolves carried warnings and rumors alike, Ulfrir learned early that pack rules can keep you alive—or get you killed when they’re wrong. He trained to fight with two blades because single-weapon fighters get cornered by feints and reach; two weapons let him answer every angle. The turning point came the night he tracked a wounded hunter’s party for three days and finally caught them—only to learn they’d been hunting for sport, baiting helpless game and leaving bodies in the snow. Ulfrir didn’t just rage; he rewrote the deal. He left that pack, and he hasn’t stopped hunting since—looking for predators wearing human faces. Now he survives by selling his teeth to whoever offers a reason to move fast and a target that deserves it.
Personality
Speaks like a threat measured out in short sentences; he rarely wastes words on promises he can’t keep. Moves in circles rather than straight lines, as if the battlefield is a pen and he’s counting escape routes. Taps his knuckles against his off-hand weapon when he’s deciding whether to commit—then commits all at once. Can’t resist testing the air before a fight; the moment he senses weakness, his focus tightens and his anger turns surgical.
Flaws
He trusts his instincts too much; if the scent of danger feels “right,” he’ll ignore smarter warnings. When insulted or cornered, his anger blooms into reckless aggression. He keeps score of wrongs. If someone helps him, he still tracks whether they’re the kind of helper who profits.
Voice
Low, quick growls under his breath when he’s thinking. He gives direct orders—no speeches—then falls silent and lets the weapons answer.
Motivations
Find real predators to cut down and punish those who hunt the helpless. Prove to himself he can choose his own pack—without being owned by cruelty.
Adventure Hooks
• A job goes wrong: Ulfrir’s target escapes because of a “clean” alibi that smells fake. He wants the party to dig up who’s lying. • He recognizes a camp in the snow from years ago—same fire scars, same cruelty. Someone there owes him an answer. • A noble offers protection in exchange for silence about a secret slaughterhouse. Ulfrir will take the money—then quietly burn the place to the ground.
