Ignatius Kadfell
Sentry Warden of Southey and Compass Guard of New Bastion., Human, Fighter, Lawful Good
Description
A middle-aged human man of thin, wiry build. Brown hair frames a pale, angular face dominated by a sharp hawk nose. He wears a worn leather cavalier hat with a wide rim, gray padded armor uniform, and carries a saber at his side. A large compass-shaped pendant hangs on a silver chain over his chest—the metal worn smooth from years of handling. His bearing is upright and precise, the posture of a soldier, but his eyes are observant and intelligent, missing nothing.
Backstory
Ignatius remembers his families journey to the New Bastion. He lost his older sister on the way there when she sacrificed herself to save him. A gift he blames himself for to this day. He remembers the horrors that walk the land and the strife that existed out there which pushed them into unknown lands to find the hope of a better future.
His father carved out a place in New Bastion and a future for them, but as a scout for the City on one of his forays into the countryside he contracted and eventually succumbed to a wasting disease eventually took his life. Ignatius immediately enlisted in the guard, and his father's good name secured his application.
He takes his place and duty to the city very seriously, and takes issue with any who seek to dismantle or destroy it.
Personality
A human fighter, lawful good — a career guardsman whose competence and integrity have made him something uncommon: a working soldier who's become trusted counsel to the city's elite. As a Compass Guide he is a man who navigates by principle, not just orders. He is a man who spends more time thinking and watching than brawling, even though he knows how to fight.
He is a lieutenant captain of the city guard — not the flashy commander, but the one who actually runs things. The kind of man who remembers the names of merchants' children and knows which streets are dangerous at which hours. People higher up listen to him because he's useful and honest, and in a city that's probably rare.
