Character

Freija Agonrit

Bugbear, Fighter, Lawful Good

Description

A bugbear enforcer from Neverwinter who turned against the moneylender Vizzini after learning that his work exploited goblinoid prejudice rather than delivered justice. Freija now travels to Phandalin to oppose Cryovain, atone for the harm she caused, and improve the reputation of goblinoids through visible acts of courage.

Backstory

Freija Agonrit worked in Neverwinter as an enforcer for Vizzini, a gnome moneylender who told her that every debtor and target deserved what was coming. She believed him until she saw the pattern: Vizzini used the fear of goblinoids to make ordinary people surrender coin, homes, and dignity, then called the theft justice. Freija punched him in the face and walked away. She now travels to Phandalin to fight the white dragon Cryovain, repair the damage caused by her former work, and give people a reason to judge goblinoids by their deeds rather than their shape.

Personality

Freija asks who benefits before she accepts anyone's claim of justice. She keeps written records of debts, favors, and names, then checks each account against the person who actually suffered. When frightened villagers flinch from her, she gives them space instead of demanding trust. She speaks plainly, dislikes euphemisms, and treats a promise as a contract witnessed by the gods.

Flaws

Freija assumes every polished explanation hides a crooked bargain. She can turn a cautious question into an interrogation, especially when money or authority is involved. Vizzini's former victims make her anger spike so quickly that she sometimes chooses confrontation before gathering proof.

Motivations

Freija wants Cryovain stopped where everyone can see a bugbear standing between danger and innocent people. She hopes each saved life will outweigh one of the harms she helped Vizzini inflict, though she knows no tally can erase them. She also wants to expose the network that let Vizzini turn goblinoid prejudice into profit.

Relationships

Freija’s past is tied to the others through the Northroad Survey, a failed House Gael venture connecting Neverwinter to Phandalin and the Sword Mountains. Vizzini financed the survey through predatory loans, and Freija enforced the resulting evictions and accusations. Daphne sabotaged the survey and framed an innocent courier; Freija later helped pursue and intimidate that same prisoner without knowing they were innocent. Rueben’s family financed and supplied the survey, though Rueben was kept from its darker dealings. The survey also crossed an old fey site connected to Thrax’s creation; Daphne damaged the site during her sabotage, while Thrax carries the only living link to the bargain that occurred there. Rueben recognizes the private House Gael seals in Vizzini’s records, Thrax recognizes the fey marks on the survey maps, Daphne knows how the expedition failed, and Freija possesses the enforcement records. Together, their memories reveal one shared chain of consequences: House Gael planned the venture, Vizzini exploited it, Daphne attacked it, Freija enforced its aftermath, and Thrax’s forgotten origin was entangled with the land it disturbed.
