Character

Thalondir Vayshyl

Contract killer for the Raven Clan. Spy, assassin, and asset., Elf, Rogue, Neutral

Description

Thalondir is lean and efficient—nothing wasted. Black hair pulled back tight, pale skin from years spent in shadow rather than sunlight. His grey-silver eyes catch light wrong; they don't reflect emotion, just take in detail. He moves with economical grace, every gesture purposeful. Dark, fitted clothes allow unrestricted movement—leather armguards worn under sleeves, a half-cloak that can be discarded in seconds. A thin scar runs from his left temple down to his jaw, mark of an assignment gone slightly wrong years ago. He bears it without shame.

Backstory

Thalondir was three years old when Mage Seekers burned his village. He remembers smoke more than faces. The Raven Clan found him days later, alone among the ash and rubble—the only survivor they could locate. They took him in not out of mercy, but because a child with no family, no identity, no past, was useful. Malleable. Over the next fifteen years, they trained him in silence, observation, and precision. Not to be evil, but to be effective. The clan taught him that the world operates on agendas—yours and everyone else's. Emotion clouds judgment. Loyalty to the Raven Clan is the only constant. By eighteen, Thalondir had completed dozens of contracts. Some targets deserved death. Others simply stood in the way of people with more power. He learned not to ask the difference. The clan's work keeps him alive. That's been enough.

Personality

Speaks rarely and only when necessary. When he does, his words are precise and stripped of ornament. He watches people the way a hunter reads terrain—looking for patterns, tells, weaknesses. Doesn't smile often, but when he does, it's unsettling because it seems calculated rather than felt. Keeps a tally of debts and favors; he remembers every person who's helped him, and every person he's killed. Treats both categories with the same cool regard.

Flaws

Struggles to trust anyone outside the clan, viewing most relationships as temporary arrangements or potential leverage. Has difficulty understanding moral reasoning that doesn't serve a practical purpose. The trauma of the village burning is locked so far down he doesn't acknowledge it exists—but it surfaces in his absolute need for the clan's structure. Without direction, he becomes untethered.

Voice

Speaks in clipped sentences. Prefers silence to small talk. When he does speak, his tone is even and controlled, never rising in volume or emotion. Uses economy of language—never a wasted word. Occasionally lapses into the clan's formal speech patterns, which sounds archaic compared to common tongue.

Motivations

Stay alive. Serve the Raven Clan's agendas without question. Survive long enough to figure out if there's anything beyond the work. Buried deep: find answers about what happened to his village and why the Mage Seekers came.

Adventure Hooks

The Raven Clan has agendas that might align with the party's goals—or conflict with them. Someone from his past might resurface: a survivor from the burned village, or a Mage Seeker hunting the same targets. His absolute loyalty to the clan could be tested if their orders contradict his own survival.
