Nihilus

Nihilus was born in the Shadowfell among Shadar-kai devoted to the Raven Queen. His family belonged to a lineage of servants who crossed beyond the Shadowfell to gather souls, memories, and trinkets touched by death, returning each offering to their queen. Nihilus joined these expeditions as part of his sacred duty as a Death Cleric, traveling beside his parents and the other Raven Queen devotees.

During one expedition, the elders prepared a ritual and collection from which Nihilus was forbidden. That night, a whisper called to him from the hoard. It sounded like the Raven Queen. He followed it, but the gathered relics felt wrong—horrific in a way he could not name. Something evil latched onto him. Voices began to take hold, murmuring through his thoughts and driving him to gather more whispers.

When the voices finally subsided, no one remained alive.

Nihilus walked away alone, still haunted by whispers that sounded like ravens. The Raven Queen calls her servants to witness death and collect what it leaves behind. These voices want Nihilus to cause death instead. He knows they are not truly hers—or desperately believes they are not.

He continues to serve the Raven Queen while suppressing the evil within him, seeking a way to silence the voices before they turn him into the thing they demand.
