Ilex Marr

Ilex Marr

Mine Foreman, Human, Fighter, Neutral Evil

Description

Ilex Marr stands with a lean, weathered frame coated in dirt and salt from the mines. His skin is streaked with white mineral dust that settles like frost along his neck and collarbone. Deep-set eyes scan the shadowed tunnels with constant alertness, and his hands bear the scars of many shifts with pick and shovel. He moves with a quiet authority, voice low and rasping, breaking the silence of the mines only to issue orders or whispered warnings.

Backstory

Once an ordinary miner, Ilex became the foreman after leading the first crew through a catastrophic breach deep within the mines. The breach unleashed a strange, salt-infused frost that clings to everything, driving men mad or worse. Ilex survived that first desperate night and gradually hardened into a leader driven by self-preservation and cold pragmatism. Rumors say he bargains with dark forces from the depths, whispering secrets to keep the mine’s terrible hunger at bay—secrets he shares only with his closest night shift workers.

Personality

Ilex speaks in careful, measured tones, often barely above a murmur, as if loud voices might bring the mountain's wrath. He has a habit of tapping his thumb against his ring finger when deep in thought, a nervous tic among those who work the mines. Despite his quiet speech, there's an undercurrent of menace in his presence—a readiness to enforce discipline with cold efficiency. He preaches survival and loyalty to the night shift, weaving whispered sermons about the mine's hunger and the price of betrayal.
