Malon Whisperpuff
Kender, Warlock, Lawful Evil
Description
Malon Whisperpuff dresses to vanish into any crowd: serviceable brown coat, faded trousers, scuffed boots, and a soft cap pulled low over his face. He keeps his gear plain, his movements unhurried, and his voice pitched to match the people around him. A small black creature—the familiar granted by the Queen of Air and Darkness—usually hides in his satchel or travels beneath nearby carts. When Malon must invoke his pact, cold shadow gathers around his gloved hand before he hides it beneath an ordinary gesture.
Backstory
Malon learned early that crowds are safer than shadows. A lone Kender attracts questions; an unremarkable Kender carrying baskets, sweeping floors, or waiting in a queue becomes part of the scenery. He built his life around that lesson, changing clothes and occupations whenever people began remembering him too clearly.
The Queen of Air and Darkness found him during a midnight gathering beneath a market bridge. Every lantern went dark at once, and a voice from the darkness offered Malon protection from notice in exchange for obedience. He accepted without asking what the Queen intended him to do. His pact grants him a chain-bound familiar and a narrow place within the Queen’s hidden order, where secrets matter more than names.
Malon now serves the Queen by listening, carrying messages, and arranging small misfortunes that look like accidents. He does not seek fame or terror. He wants doors opened, witnesses confused, and every command completed without anyone recalling that he was present.
Personality
Malon studies the people around him and copies whatever behavior draws the least attention: he laughs when others laugh, complains about prices in a market, and joins the slowest-moving line. He keeps his hands busy with harmless objects so no one notices when something important disappears. In conversation, he asks small practical questions and remembers every answer. He speaks warmly to strangers, but never gives anyone a reason to believe they know him.
Flaws
Malon treats every relationship as a useful arrangement and grows impatient when kindness produces no advantage. He obeys the Queen of Air and Darkness even when the order seems petty or cruel, because disobedience would make him visible to a power he cannot escape. His attempt to blend in also makes him slow to claim credit, defend allies, or admit when a plan has gone wrong. When frightened, he overcorrects by acting so ordinary that his forced calm becomes suspicious.
Motivations
Malon wants to become so forgettable that even enemies who speak with him cannot describe his face. He gathers secrets for the Queen of Air and Darkness to earn greater protection, better disguises, and eventually freedom from anyone else’s scrutiny. He is willing to ruin reputations, redirect blame, or sacrifice strangers if it keeps the Queen’s plans hidden and preserves his place within them.
