Character

J'rra

Tabaxi, Rogue, Chaotic Good

Description

Atabaxi female with dark gray fur marked by black stripes. Flowing black hair frames a feline face with striking purple eyes. She stands 5'10" and weighs 150 pounds — lean and built for speed. Dark leather armor with fire-resistant treatment hugs her frame. She carries a shortsword and two daggers as primary weapons, with a shortbow slung across her back. Burn scars trace the left side of her body, pale against her dark gray fur — a permanent reminder of the fire that claimed her family.

Backstory

J'rra grew up in a tabaxi caravan, one of seven siblings in a close-knit family. When she was twenty, a changeling infiltrated their camp, wearing the face of a trusted merchant they'd traded with for years. It befriended her kin, earned their trust, then lured four of them into a trap meant to isolate them from the group. By the time J'rra realized what was happening, the changeling had begun its slaughter. She fought back with everything she had — shortsword, daggers, pure rage — but the creature set fires to cover its escape and mask the scene. The flames caught her left side as she pulled her dying siblings from the blaze. She killed the changeling in the smoke and ash, but the victory tasted like ash. Her family paid the price for her hesitation, her failure to see the lie sooner.

Personality

J'rra carries the weight of that night in every movement. She's pragmatic, decisive, and unsettlingly calm in violence — hesitation costs lives, and she learned that lesson in fire. She trusts her instincts over words and watches faces for the micro-shifts that betray a lie. Around strangers, she's cordial but distant, maintaining the kind of friendly detachment a hunter uses with prey. With her chosen companions, she's fierce and loyal, though she rarely speaks about her family. When she does, it's matter-of-fact, almost clinical — a defense mechanism that fools no one who's listening.

Flaws

Her hatred of changelings and doppelgangers has hardened into something that looks like bloodlust. She kills first because dialogue feels like a luxury her family couldn't afford. This black-and-white thinking — no negotiation, no questions, only elimination — has put her at odds with allies who prefer subtlety or mercy. The scars on her body ache in cold weather and heat alike, a constant physical reminder of trauma. She unconsciously avoids fire even as she forces herself into situations that require her to use it, creating moments of hesitation that cost her.

Voice

J'rra speaks in short, precise sentences — no wasted words. Her voice carries a slight rasp from smoke inhalation that night, noticeable in quiet moments. She uses few contractions and rarely raises her pitch, even when angry. When discussing changelings or doppelgangers, her voice goes flat and her pupils dilate slightly — the only outward sign of the storm underneath.

Motivations

She hunts changelings and doppelgangers wherever she finds evidence of them, seeing it as a debt she owes her dead siblings. Beyond that vendetta, she's drawn to the kind of chaos that lets her move freely — no masters, no rules, just the next job and the next chance to prove her dead family's deaths meant something. She seeks companions who understand that some things cannot be forgiven or negotiated, only ended.

Adventure Hooks

A rumor of changeling activity in a nearby city. A companion expressing sympathy for a shapeshifter's plight. A moment where someone's story does not match their face. A job offer requiring her to work alongside someone she suspects of being a doppelganger. The scars on her body aching before a storm — a magical omen she cannot trust.
