Hauthrond, the Last Promise

Hauthrond, the Last Promise

Weapon, Artifact, Requires Attunement

Description

A towering greatsword of blackened adamant, its fuller etched with script that looks different depending on the angle of the light. The hilt is wrapped in pale leather that has the dry feel of old parchment, and the guard arcs forward like a held breath. When lifted, the blade carries its own cold glow along the edge, as if dawn were trapped inside the metal.

Lore

Hauthrond was forged for the final stand of the starbound knight Serael Vyr, who vowed to make even fate kneel before the people she had sworn to protect. In the hour when the sky fractured above the city of Veldryn, Serael planted the sword in the shattered street and spoke its promise; the cracks halted as though the world had been corrected mid-sentence. The blade has changed hands only once since—through the trembling grip of a survivor who refused to let that vow die.

Properties

When you hold Hauthrond and speak a promise you mean, the space around the blade steadies—sound sharpens, shadows align, and nearby motion seems to remember a better order. The sword turns the wielder’s intent into a clear, unmissable strike and then carries that clarity outward, cutting not just flesh and steel but hesitation and false openings. Against lies and unnatural bargains, its edge feels heavier, as if weighing the truth before letting it through.
