Unnamed Dwarf Cleric

Dwarf, Cleric, Neutral Good

Description

A five-foot-tall dwarf woman with a notably slender build rather than the broad, heavy frame common among her kin. She has a practical healer’s hands, a travel-worn satchel of bandages and herbs, and a holy symbol associated with the Light Domain. Her clothing favors pale, warm colors and easy movement over dwarven ornament. Small signs of a medical life remain in her appearance: cleanly wrapped fingers, a roll of linen at her belt, and the sharp scent of salve and sun-dried herbs. Her presence is gentle but alert, as though she learned to watch authority figures before deciding whether they can be trusted.

Backstory

She was small when a traveling cleric took her in and became her mentor, teaching her to tend wounds, set bones, read fevers, and call down healing magic. Under his guidance, she learned that light was more than radiance: it was truth brought into the open, hope offered without coercion, and the chance to choose a path for oneself. Her mentor’s authority grew harsher with time. He began deciding what she should believe, where she should go, and whom she was allowed to help. When she finally refused an order that would have left an injured stranger untreated, their bond broke. She left with her healer’s satchel, her holy symbol, and the lessons worth keeping. Now separated from the dwarf who adopted her, she treats the sick wherever she finds them while learning to tell guidance from control.

Personality

She helps before asking whether help is wanted, then adjusts quickly if someone says no. When treating an injury, she explains each step aloud so the patient keeps a sense of control. She leaves shutters open during the day and lights a candle before difficult conversations. She speaks plainly about lies, but does not force confessions; truth, to her, must be chosen before it can heal. Around commanding people, her hands become still and her answers carefully measured until they prove they can accept disagreement.

Flaws

She mistakes independence for safety and resists useful advice when it sounds like an order. A raised voice can pull her back into old obedience, while a calm command can make her suspicious for the opposite reason. She keeps tending wounds long after exhaustion has made her hands shake. When someone praises her mentor, she either defends him too quickly or condemns him too sharply, with little room between.

Motivations

She wants to become the kind of healer who makes people stronger without making them dependent. She seeks honest accounts of her mentor’s actions, including the parts she may have misunderstood, but she will not return to his authority. Each person she treats is proof that a life can change direction. She carries the Light Domain’s promise into places ruled by fear: reveal what is hidden, preserve hope, and leave people free to choose what comes next.
