Mirmel Quickclaw
Tabaxi, Wizard, Lawful Neutral
Mirmel Quickclaw is best represented as a Wizard of the School of Illusion, with a thief’s training rather than a battle mage’s habits. She studies every exit before entering a room, keeps her spell components sorted by touch, and treats a lock, a guard, and a magical ward as different versions of the same puzzle.
During the Lantern Tax raid, Mirmel slipped across three rain-slick rooftops to reach the district archive, where officials had hidden seizure records behind a warded iron door. She used Nystul’s Magic Aura to mask the stolen ledger, Minor Illusion to send false footsteps down the stairwell, and Invisibility to cross the archive floor. When the magistrate arrived early, she cast Mirror Image and Misty Stepped through a high window, leaving three bewildered catfolk illusions running in different directions below. She returned the ledger to the district council before dawn, with every confiscated name copied in her careful hand.
Description
A 178-centimeter-tall catkin woman with a graceful, athletic build. Small cat ears rise from the crown of her head, and her green-yellow eyes have vertical pupils. Her hair bears vertical tabby stripes, echoed by markings across her skin and on her moderate-length tail. She moves with the balanced ease of a practiced climber and parkour runner, carrying the quiet hands and alert posture of an experienced thief.
Backstory
Her family comes from the downtrodden beastfolk district of the city, where cramped tenements, rooftop paths, and barred shopfronts taught her to move quietly and trust her own hands. By age twenty, she had reached journeyman standing as an illusionist—an unusual talent among her neighbors and one that made her useful to thieves, smugglers, and anyone who needed a door, guard, or identity to disappear. She became an experienced thief and accomplished lockpicker, pairing careful observation with catkin agility. Her climbing and parkour skills let her treat walls, balconies, awnings, and rooftops as a second street. She now works toward mastery of illusion while deciding whether her gifts will buy her freedom, protect her district, or make her another power exploiting it.
Skills And Spells
Current skills: Illusion magic at journeyman level; excellent climbing; excellent parkour and rooftop movement; good stealth; experienced theft; accomplished lockpicking; catkin senses, balance, agility, and quiet footwork.
Current spell list: Minor Illusion; Disguise Self; Silent Image; Color Spray; Phantasmal Force; Invisibility; Mirror Image; Blur; Misty Step; Nystul’s Magic Aura. These spells support false identities, escapes, decoys, concealment, and infiltration rather than direct combat.
Projected mastery over the next five years: Major Image; Hypnotic Pattern; Major Illusion; Hallucinatory Terrain; Mislead; Greater Invisibility; Seeming; Programmed Illusion; Project Image; and Mirage Arcane. She is also likely to master Counterspell, Detect Magic, Identify, Mage Hand, and Knock as practical tools for defeating wards, handling mechanisms from a safe distance, and bypassing locked barriers. Her physical training should advance toward near-silent rooftop travel, controlled drops, rapid window and balcony entry, escape- route planning, and lockpicking under pressure. With continued practice, she could become capable of maintaining layered illusions while moving, creating convincing false crowds or pursuers, and preparing an entire escape scene before a mark realizes anything is wrong.
