Tessa Softstep is a compact halfling with a fleet-footed grace, her dark eyes sharp under a mop of wild dark hair. Years of living on the edge show in the worn leather armor, scuffed boots, and the assortment of knives strapped tight to her belt, each blade a tool for whispering death. Her posture easily slips between confident swagger and the cautious crouch of someone always watching—and waiting—to strike.

Tessa once belonged to a halfling thieves' guild, known for her precision and cunning. A botched heist led to her disgrace, with the guild turning their backs on her after she was caught and barely escaped capture. Since then, she’s survived as a lone shadow, perfecting her sneak attacks and living with the sting of betrayal while seeking a chance at redemption or revenge.

Tessa is restless and alert, always surveying her surroundings with quick, darting glances. She trusts few, using sarcasm and dry wit to keep others at arm's length. Despite her rogue's life, she has a habit of fiddling nervously with one of her knives when thinking, a subtle twitch that sometimes betrays her cool exterior.

Tessa's pride is a weakness—she can reject help, believing she must reclaim her honor alone, even when outmatched. Her mistrust extends deeply, making alliances fragile and short-lived. Her recklessness in pursuit of targets sometimes leads to danger she could avoid with more patience.
